The Taoiseach is to discuss concerns about the use of Dundrum House as an IPAS accommodation centre with the Justice Minister.
It follows concerns raised in the Dáil about the €20 million contract with a Spanish registered company to house 277 asylum seekers in the West Tipp hotel.
Fine Gael TD Michael Murphy highlighted ownerships issues, the lack of details about the company involved and the fact that the site is under investigation by Tipperary County Council for significant unauthorised development.
Micheál Martin undertook to speak with the Justice Minister who takes over responsibility for integration and international protection from today.
“Well I think my understanding is again a lot of work had happened during the time of the last government in respect of – it would have been the Department of Children at the time.
“I will ask the Minister for Justice to examine the issues that you raised here. I presume you’ve written – or that people have written – to the Minister if you’re suggesting there’s irregularities or whatever. I’m not familiar with those and I can’t comment on that but I will raise the issue with the Minister.”
