Illegal dumping at some clothes banks across Tipperary is becoming a major problem according to a local councillor.

Independent Jim Ryan in particular has highlighted the problems at the Parnell Street car park in Thurles.

However he told Tipp Today earlier that the issue is not just confined to Thurles.

“These clothes banks are full to the brim – they’re overflowing, there’s bags being dumped in front of them. They’re not being emptied by the company responsible so it’s a huge issue, not just in Thurles but all over the county.

“I raised it with the council – there is a private operator contracted to run these and seemingly the feedback from the council is that there is ongoing negotiations with them at a national level. It seems they’re not happy with the service they’re providing and we’ll just have to await the outcome of that.”
