Nenagh Men’s Shed have been offered a new home having expressed concerns about their future in recent weeks.
The group had raised the prospect of having to close due to the unsustainable running costs involved.
Nenagh Community Training Centre has stepped in and offered the use of their facility which has been accepted by the Men’s Shed.
Mick White told Tipp Today earlier that the centre at St John’s Place is ideal for them.
“The plan is that we’ll use the building two evenings a week starting off – we’ll make a contribution towards expenses and stuff as well. It’s taken a huge amount of pressure off of myself and a few of the lads.
“We can avail of ETB tutors from there so if we have the facilities we can do courses with the lads which they’re very interest in doing.”
Mick White feels the Government or Local Authorities don’t want to support voluntary organisations like theirs.
“The impression I get as well is that local authorities and semi-state or state bodies don’t want t set a precedent where they’re giving buildings or premises to voluntary groups.
“For the example the Order of Malta – and I wasn’t aware of this until the other day – they’re operating in the area for the last 85 years and they still don’t have a home.”
