The swift response of emergency services in Nenagh is being praised.
It follows a fire at a house on Ormond Street in the town earlier this week.
The alarm was raised late on Tuesday night by an elderly man who was living on his own after he spotted smoke coming from his bedroom.
His neighbours together with Gardaí and the Fire & Rescue service came to his aid.
The man was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick where he is being treated in the Intensive Care Unit.
Councillor Louise Morgan Walsh – whose parents live on Ormond Street – has thanked the efforts of the people living in the area and the emergency services for preventing what could have been a fatal outcome.
