A two year upgrade of the Wastewater Treatment Plant in Fethard is due to start this month.

Uisce Éireann says it is investing €15 million in the project which will unlock future growth in the area and improve discharges into the Clashawley River.

It will include new equipment for handling incoming wastewater, stormwater storage, and improved tanks for treating wastewater.

The project will also see the installation of new pumps and enhancements to existing technology to boost the plant’s efficiency.

The aim is to modernise and improve the performance and capacity to unlock future growth and development in the area and improve the quality of treated wastewater discharged into the Clashawley River and ensure compliance with regulations.

Work is expected to start this month to be completed by late 2026.

The project will be contained almost entirely within the existing site and an adjacent field to minimise traffic disruption in the area during construction.
