Morris questions wisdom of piping water to Dublin

A groundswell of opposition is growing in Tipperary once again against plans to pipe water from the River Shannon to Dublin.

The proposals from Uisce Éireann would see 300 million of litres extracted from the Parteen Basin each day before being treated and piped 170 kilometres to Dublin.

Estimates for the project range from €3 billion to €10 billion with many feeling it would be a complete waste of money given the amount of water that is currently leaking from the network in Dublin.

Independent Tipperary County Councillor Séamie Morris is one of those who has spoken out against the plans for many years.

He says the leakage rate in Dublin is currently estimated at 45%.
