A planned meeting to discuss proposals to establish an IPAS centre in Thurles has been deferred.
News broke this week that Tipperary County Council recently granted a ‘Section 5’ planning exemption to a Cork-based developer for the project at a former furniture store on Mitchel Street.
Local Councillor Jim Ryan was one of those to express concerns at the lack of consultation with elected representatives on the proposals.
A meeting was to be held this evening but the Independent Councillor says this has now been postponed.
“The meeting now will take place next Thursday night March 27th at 7.30 in the Anner Hotel.
“I would encourage as many people as possible to attend this very important meeting for the town. I will be inviting all the relevant bodies, representatives from the developer, representatives from the Department of Integration and our local TDs and Councillors. And obviously everybody who is concerned regarding this proposal.
“There has been a lot of fear and a lot of anger out there since news broke of this proposed IPAS centre for Thurles during the week.”
