There was a large turnout at a public meeting in Cashel last night to discuss concerns relating to a local cemetery.
Among the issues were access to Cormac’s Cemetery, maintenance of the site, headstones as well as problems with anti-social behaviour and parking.
The gathering at the Spafield Resource Centre led to some heated exchanges at times.
Local Traveler Jimmy Delaney told Tipp FM’s Fran Curry after the meeting that the issue of anti-social behaviour has to be addressed.
“The law is the law Fran – that’s that. We all have to obey the law.
“There’s people on about the dogs running around – I can’t tell lies – I often see the dogs roaming there myself. That’s to be addressed but as I said it’s who owns those dogs and who is doing the wrong should be targeted not the full community.”
Local Fianna Fáil Councillor Roger Kennedy was hopeful that intimidation and anti-social behaviour would finally be addressed.
“If you go into a graveyard on your own focused solely on going to the grave of your loved one and saying a few prayers there and you have youngsters running around playing, you have dogs running around and you have people singing over somewhere else – that intimidates you.
“People who go to graveyards are generally older folk and they deserve peace and quiet and hopefully this will come from tonight.”
