Goldsboro: New Born Baby Grant a welcome boost

Over 600 Tipperary parents have benefitted from the New Born Baby Grants since their introduction late last year.

Local Fianna Fail Senator Imelda Goldsboro welcomed the grant saying it helps support parents during what can be a tough time.

In all 651 families in Tipp have accessed the New Born Baby Grant which was introduced on December 1st.

Those who have welcomed a new baby or adopted a child automatically receive the €280 Grant.

Its paid alongside the regular €140 Child Benefit so parents will receive a total of €420 in support during the first month.

Senator Imelda Goldsboro welcomed the plan saying the adjustment to the life of a new-born baby can be so rewarding, but tough for parents at times as well.

19,750 children nationwide have benefited from the New Born Baby Grant so far.

In a full year it is expected that the Grants will be paid in respect of 54,000 children at a cost of €15 million.
