Former Mayor of Clonmel and survivor of clerical abuse will be laid to rest today

Michael O’Brien was a former Fianna Fail member of Clonmel Town Council and was elected Mayor in 1993.

He became a national figure when he spoke about his experience of abuse at St Joseph’s Industrial School in Clonmel.

Michael’s funeral is at 10 o’clock this morning in St. Mary’s Church, Irishtown and he’ll be buried in St Patrick Cemetery afterwards.

A special meeting of the Clonmel Borough District will take place at 8.30 this morning where a vote of sympathy will be passed.
