The cost of piping water from the River Shannon in North Tipp to Dublin could be more than €10 billion.
That’s a worst-case scenario following a risk analysis according to correspondence between the Department of Housing and the Public Accounts Committee.
The Irish Times reports the bill for the proposed project, that will take water from the Parteen Basin in Tipperary and pipe 170 kilometres it to Peamount in Dublin, has been estimated at between €3.3 billion and €10.4 billion.
There has been considerable opposition to the plan among many with calls for the problems with the water network in Dublin to be fixed rather than extracting water from the Shannon.
