Community groups in Tipperary are being encouraged to take part in a venture to set up toy libraries in their area.
Toy Libraries Ireland is a new association which aims to raise the profile of existing schemes and providing information and support for those wishing to set up a toy lending service in their area.
Minister of State at the Department of the Environment Alan Dillon says they have many benefits.
“Toy libraries are an exciting and growing concept in Ireland and we’ve great examples already running in Clonmel. These community hubs give families access to high quality sustainable toys where children can borrow a toy, they can play and return that toy just like books in a normal library.
“They bring huge benefits – they cut down on plastic waste to make it more sustainable, they save families money and also they reduce clutter at home.”
