Social media reports that a well-known Cashel hotel was to house refugees have been rejected.
Facebook posts suggested that Kearney’s Castle on the towns Main Street was to be used for International Protection Application Services applicants or refugee accommodation.
However local Councillor Liam Browne had discussions with the owner Michael Cummins who lives in the property with his family.
On Tipp Today earlier he said the family were fearful of the consequences of the rumours.
“He was very, very concerned about the rumour because he was afraid that people would either congregate or damage would be done to the castle while they’re living there.
“He told me there’s absolutely no truth in the rumours whatsoever – he doesn’t know where it came from, he doesn’t know how it came. They were very concerned and very unhappy at the fact that someone can put that rumour up with no back-up whatsoever and cause that sort of hassle for a family.”
