The sights and sounds of high speed motorcycle racing will return to South Tipp this summer and with it a welcome boost to the local economy in Carrick on Suir.
Road racing has been absent for a number of years due to issues with insurance.
However after much hard work by the local organisers in securing insurance there will be action in Faugheen, Athea and Fore this summer.
Paul Power is secretary of the Faugheen 50 Supporters Club – he says they already have inquiries from competitors abroad which will add to the numbers this year.
“We get over 5,000 people to Faugheen but its not just the village that benefits. It also benefits the wider area – you would have a lot of people spending locally both in Carrick and getting hotel accommodation in Clonmel and Carrick.
“It creates a great atmosphere, creates a great buzz and its great for the wider community. We’ve had a lot of inquiries from people in the UK and people in Europe wanting to come over.”
This year’s event will take place on the weekend of July 19th/20th
