A motion has been passed at the local Municipal District meeting aiming to restrict who can be buried at Cormac’s Cemetery in Cashel.

Independent Cllr Liam Browne asked that only people living within 20 miles or who has family ties to the area should be allocated plots there.

The restriction cannot be put in place at this stage because it wouldn’t be compatible with the county’s bye-laws.

But Cllr Browne says it’s filling up too fast because people are coming from all over the country to be buried there and locals are worried they won’t be able to get plots near their families in future.
