Community spirit encouraged in Tipperary

The importance of building a local community was highlighted at an event in the village of Upperchurch last night.

“Building Caring and Vibrant Communities” focused on inspiring active and social retirement in Rural Ireland.

Among those to address a packed village hall were Mary Hennessy of the Annacarty Active Retirement Association, Tom Cullen from Thurles Men’s Shed Group and Dr Michael Ryan of LIT Thurles.

Also in attendance was Professor Eamon O’Shea of NUIG who spoke of what’s important to local communities in rural Ireland.
