They've been reacting to the latest report from Irish Business Against Litter which shows the town to be Clean to European Norms – however Clonmel has slipped from 8th to 17th position of the 40 towns and cities taking part in the league.

The IBAL report said all approach roads to Clonmel were in very good order and this high standard was sustained for many of the sites within the town. O'Connell Street and Wolfe Tone Street in the town centre were in particularly good order – not just clear of litter but well presented and maintained.

People out and about in Clonmel this morning were very much aware of the need to keep the streets clean when it comes to attracting shoppers and felt it was up to residents of the town to ensure they did their bit in this regard.

While the local authority are the ones tasked with maintaining the streets and approach roads, IBAL also highlight the need for businesses to do their part.

Conor Moroney of Moroney's Footwear says keeping the area around their shop clean is part and parcel of their day. However he says more investment is needed in the town centre.

Brian Hogg of Connolly Menswear was equally aware of the need to ensure standards are maintained in the area in front of their premises but also pointed out that the public need to do their bit as well.
