Clonmel man on trial for assaulting Garda

A Clonmel man denies a charge of assault causing serious harm to a member of the Gardai.

Garda Helena Power was temporarily blinded after being kicked in the face during a fracas at a Halloween bonfire in 2008.

Andrew Freaney of 22 Bianconi Drive appeared before Clonmel Circuit Court yesterday.

The court heard that there were scenes of complete chaos at the bonefire on the night in question.

Garda Power required surgery for the injuries sustained to her eye and now has to wear glasses for reading.

The trial continues.
