Repeated and severe overcrowding at South Tipp General is set to be raised at Ministerial level today.
Members of the Clonmel hospital's Action Committee are scheduled to hold a meeting with James Reilly this evening – however with the Cabinet reshuffle imminent the issue could be put on the back burner.
While the situation with overcrowded levels at the Clonmel A&E has eased somewhat in recent weeks its certainly not the norm..
It peaked in April/May with the numbers well into the double digits – some of the patients had serious pulmonary conditions – and many were stuck in corridors for days with no bed sheets pillows or privacy.
Nurses warned that the hospital is now running at double its capacity – and while other neighbouring hospitals were upgraded to deal with increased numbers – this didn't occur in Clonmel.
Following a meeting In April The South Tipperary Hospital Action Committee put in an official request for a face to face sit down with Health Minister James Reilly.
That was originally set for last week but rescheduled until today with Clonmel Hospital consultant Paud O Regan among those attending –
However with a reshuffle imminent and the possibility of James Reilly being moved from the portfolio its unclear if the meeting will go ahead and if it does – how much could be achieved if the current incumbent wont be in the position after today.
