Clonmel floodwater’s now above 2009 levels.

Water levels on the River Suir in Clonmel have exceeded the height of the last major flood in town.

While Level 3 of the Flood Defence Scheme is not needed yet, Council officials are monitoring the situation closely.

Rising floods on the Quay has led to its temporary closure once again this morning while the Old Bridge and Convent Bridge have been blocked off since Tuesday evening.

The Quay is likely to re-open later this morning.

According to Town Clerk Ger Walsh the flood waters rose a further 200 millimetres overnight.
