Glanbia has confirmed that a milk depot in South Tipperary is set to close with a small number of job loses.
The food giant is taking the action as part of a restructuring of its Consumer Products business which it says continues to be impacted by the challenging Irish retail environment as well as high input costs due to sustained increases in global dairy market prices.
Over 600 people are employed in this sector.
Speaking to Tipp FM a company spokesperson said that as part of the organisation it is no longer sustainable to keep the Clonmel depot open the site of the former McEvoy business which Glanbia bought from the Examiner.
The added that this will result in a small number of job losses – Further cuts are also expected at another site in Ballytogher on the Kilkenny Laois border as well as in Drogheda and possibly Fonthill, Dublin.
The exact number has not yet been determined – however as part of the restructuring plan, new jobs will also be created with the opening of satellite operations in a number of locations including Waterford.
