A runner from Kenya has won the Cork City Marathon – in a record time of 2 hours, 22 minutes and 11 seconds.

On his first time in the competition, Freddy Kearon beat the official race record by over three minutes. 

In the women's event, Angela McCann from Clonmel successfully defended her title – with a time of 2 hours, 53 minutes and 2 seconds.

Meanwhile, 40-thousand people are expected to take part in the Flora Women's Mini Marathon this afternoon.

It kicks off in the capital at 3pm, with traffic diversions in place.
