A Tipperary T.D has welcomed clarification from Minister Phil Hogan in relation to a reduction in funding for County Councils.

Some weeks ago the Local Government Minister decided to suspend between 5 and 15% of monies owed to local authorities in the third quarter due to a poor performance in collecting the Household Charge.

South Tipp's central government allocation was reduced by €1.8 million while North Tipp was hit to the tune of €1.5 million.

Fine Gael's Tom Hayes says following queries from him and a number of local and national representatives Minister Hogan has said he will review the funding levels in September to see if there has been a significant improvement by local authorities in the collection of the controversial €100 charge.
