Changes recommended for South Tipperary hospital services.

Hospital services in South Tipperary could be facing major changes according to Health Minister James Reilly.

He has briefed Government backbencher's including Deputy Tom Hayes on the contents of an as yet unpublished report on health services in the south east.

It's understood the report recommends the break-up of services including the closure of one of the maternity unit's in the region – either South Tipp General in Clonmel, St Luke's in Kilkenny, Wexford or Waterford.

As had been previously suggested, the report also recommends the linking of South Tipperary and Waterford with Cork University Hospital.

The other main hospitals in the region – Kilkenny and Wexford – would be linked to Dublin.
