Preliminary figures from Census 2016 report an increase of 1,167 on the 2011 data.
Meanwhile there were nearly 9,000 vacant dwellings recorded in the Premier County in April's Census.
Ireland's 27th Census shows that our population now stands at 4,757,976 – an increase of nearly 170 thousand on the 2011 figures.
The data from the Census 2016 taken on April 24th last shows Tipperary's population has risen to 160 thousand,441 – up 1.1% on the last census.
This is less than a third of the national increase of 3.7%
The biggest rise in population was recorded in Meath with a jump of nearly 6%.
The preliminary census figures also show that the male/female breakdown in the Premier County is almost 50 – 50. For every 1,000 females there are 999 males – nationally this figure is 1,000 to 978.
With the numbers of the local authority housing list in Tipperary running into thousands the amount of vacant dwellings in the county makes for interesting reading. According to the Census data there are 8,919 such properties in the Premier County.
Nationally there are over quarter of a million empty dwellings.
The Central Statistics Office will continue to deliver further results from Census 2016 as they become available.
