Applicants for the Carers Allowance in Tipperary are being forced to wait an average of 17 weeks for a decision.
The delays have led to calls for staff to be transferred from other departments to deal with the backlog.
Tipperary TD Jackie Cahill says these delays are causing significant financial worry and stress for people.
