The local authority will hold its April meeting this morning where problems with an area to the front of a local housing estate will be raised.

Labour representative Fiona Bonfield has tabled a notice of motion for the Nenagh Municipal District calling for action on a derelict site in Newport.

The problems with the property near the Mulcair Manor housing estate have been ongoing for a number of years.

Councillor Bonfield wants the council to get tougher and follow through on a derelict site notice that has been issued to the owners/receivers of the property in question.

She says while Mulcair Manor is a fabulous estate there are barriers falling down and lying on the ground at the front which is causing a serious health and safety issue to children and adults and also to motorists.

Councillor Bonfield says residents in the whole town of Newport want action on this immediately.
