A motion calling for a referendum on the public ownership of water services has been shot down by local councillors.
The proposal was put to the monthly meeting of Tipperary County Council by the two Sinn Fein representatives,
who called for a letter to be sent to the Minister asking for a constitutional referendum to protect against the privatisation the crucial service.

It was rejected in a vote after a heated debate.
