Both the ASTI and TUI could decide today to strike as soon as Christmas after talks on the reforms broke down earlier this week.
They won't agree to a compromise from the Education Minister that would see 40 percent of marks for the junior cycle assessed by teachers.

The Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Brendan Howlin says the modified proposals are a very important leap forward and is supported by pupils and parents.
He is hoping that teachers unions on reflection will embrace it as well.
