The issue of people illegally parking in disabled parking spaces in Thurles has been raised at this weeks meeting of the Town Council.
Independent Councillor Jim Ryan has had a number of representations made to him by local people frustrated at the number of people using these spaces when they are not entitled to.
He says it's obvious that merely issuing fines to these offenders is not enough of a deterrent.
Thurles Town Council is to write to both the Road Safety Authority and the Minister for Justice in a bid to have penalty points imposed on motorists who illegally park in disabled spaces.
