Extra ESB were drafted in this morning from Cavan and Monaghan to help restore power to the thousands of homes hit by the storm which blazed a trail across the county yesterday afternoon and last night.

The vast majority have already had power restored while it's hoped power will be back to all areas in Tipperary by this evening.

At its peak there were upwards of 6,000 customers with electricity as those falling trees took down power-lines right across the Premier County.

In the wake of yesterdays storm Cathaoirleach of the Thurles – Templemore Municipal District John Hogan is calling for changes to planning regulations in Tipperary.

He wants rules introduced which would stop people planting trees near the side of the road.
