The tap water is not safe to drink on two public water supplies in South Tipperary.

Uisce Éireann has issued a Boil Water Notice with immediate effect for both the Carrick on Suir (Linguan) and Horse and Jockey Public Water Supply.

4,000 homes and businesses on the Carrick scheme are affected including the North side of the River Suir as well as Friar Street Upper, Corpse Road, Rack Hill, South Quay and Bridge Street on the South side of the River Suir and surrounding areas.

Some areas on the Northside of River Suir are not affected because they are supplied from another scheme; Hazel Close, Hawthorn Cresent, Asgrove, Oak Drive, Beech Ave, Sycamore Close and Mount Saint Nicholas.

Meanwhile 600 customers are impacted by the boil notice for the Horse and Jockey scheme which also takes in Forgestown, Moycarkey, Curraheen, Ballymurreen, Drumgower, Newtown and surrounding areas.

Spokesperson is Colin Cunningham says it’s because of treatment issues at the plants.

Maps of the affected areas are available to view on www.water.ie
