Following a prolonged planning process Tipperary County Council has this week given conditional approval for a McDonald’s on the Slievenamon Road.
The development beside Lidl will also include a drive-thru.
The planning application resulted in 24 submissions to the local authority with a number of concerns that the development would negatively impact the areas visual amenity and create nuisance by way of noise and anti-social behaviour.
The overconcentration of takeaways and fast food outlets in Thurles was also highlighted along with fears of the impact on the town centre should planning be granted.
Among the conditions attached to the granting of planning was that the McDonalds could only operate between the hours of 6am and 10pm.
