Trifol started up just 18 months ago on the site of the old Bord na Mona briquette factory near Littleton.

The plastic recycling company has now delivered its first commercial shipment of 25 tonnes of pyrolysis oil to Shell and they can now produce about 4,000 tonnes a year.

But they are planning to quickly expand this capacity in the next few years as they look to recycle most of the industrial waste plastic produced in Ireland.

CEO Ruben Rodriguez says the synthetic oil they make could be used as fuel.

But for now it’ll be turned back into greener plastic as part of the circular economy.

By this time next year they will already be recycling three times as much as they can now.
