The parking bye-laws in Thurles will be reviewed to bring in more short term parking in the centre of town.

A motion was passed at the District Council Meeting yesterday calling for the process to be started immediately.

Local businesses are worried that the car parks are full of workers using all-day parking tickets and leaving no spaces for shoppers.

The issue came up during recent rows over plans for the redevelopment of Liberty Square which will see spaces removed.

Cllr Peggy Ryan proposed the motion – she says the idea is to ensure shoppers can get their messages done and then move on leaving the space for another shopper.
