There was a large turnout at a meeting held in Killenaule last night in relation to discuss the future of Ardagh House Hotel.
The premises had been closed for a number of years but was recently taken over by a new owner.
The meeting was organised by Councillor Michael Brennan following reports that the property was to be used to house International Protection Accommodation applicants.
The Labour representative says the new owners claimed the hotel would not be housing asylum seekers but people who would be working in a local mushroom farm among others
On Tipp Today earlier Michael Brennan said the meeting aimed to allay any fears among the local community.
“We need to work with the new owner and he needs to work with the people of Killenaule. At the meeting last night the big concerns were would people be going in overnight, who would these people be, would they be working, where would they be working, where have they come from?
“There isn’t much work in the area of the catchment of the Killenaule area.”
