Bridge between Ballina and Killaloe to be pedestrianised temporarily

The old bridge linking Ballina and Killaloe is set to be pedestrianised for two months.
A committee between Tipperary and Clare County Councils heard proposals to stop traffic using the bridge from July 28th to the first week of October.
Killaloe’s Councillor Tony O Brien is among those opposed to the idea, claiming it is unnecessary due to the major drop in traffic flows since new bridge opened.
Traffic flows on old bridge have nearly halved since the new Brian Boru bridge opening last month.
Ballina Councillor Phyll Bugler says she’s against the plan due to the towns reliance on tourism.
