Book reading a struggle for students, say lecturers

College academics say that students are finding reading a book from start to finish daunting, because they have shorter attention spans, and find the language or concepts too hard.

They're describing a shift towards finding information on the internet, away from using books for research.

Lecturers say graduates are not avid readers and so they've stopped recommending that students read whole books in some cases.
