Around forty houses and a local school in South Tipperary are facing having to boil water before consumption for the next 2½ years.

A boil water notice has already been in place in the Skeheenarinka area near Cahir for over 3 years.

Major works have been approved for the Burncourt water scheme – according to local Councillor Marie Murphy the closing date for the five shortlisted tenders is Thursday next.

However work is unlikely to start until at least September with a further two years to completion.

Councillor Murphy admits that while progress is being made it's not much use to people in Skeheenarinka.
