Bankruptcy threat for Tipperary T.D

An Independent TD in Tipperary may be facing bankruptcy proceedings and possible imprisonment.

A report in the Sunday Times claims North Tipp Deputy Michael Lowry is to be  given ten days to
pay a 47 thousand 500 euro legal bill for his failed libel action against journalist Sam Smyth.

This is after Dublin County regitrar Susan Ryan, rejected an appeal by Michael Lowry  and awarded Smyth full costs.

The clock will start ticking on the 10 day ultimatum which is likely to be next month, after  Susan Ryan issues a certificate of taxation, unless  the Independent Deputy appeals her decision to a Circuit Court judge.
