Ban Ki Moon to be honoured in Tipperary today

The South Korean national is being honoured for his contribution to world-wide peace efforts and climate change. 

The Tipperary International Peace Award is chosen from a shortlist of figures from across the globe.

Former winners include Dr Richard Haass, the late Nelson Mandela, Bill Clinton and Mary McAleese.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is this year's winner…he has been chosen for his leadership in mobilizing the international community to address climate change, forging a new development agenda and responding to a series of grave conflicts and major natural disasters. 

This evening at Ballykisteen Hotel in West Tipperary, Mr Ban will be presented with the accolade by Martin Quinn from the Tipperary Peace Convention. 

The UN Secretary General will deliver an address at the ceremony which gets underway from 5 o'clock this evening.
