Australian company fined after Tipp woman seriously injured

An Australian Company involved in an horrific accident that injured a young Tipperary woman has been fined more than 45,000 euro.

Annie Dunne from Kilkeary near Nenagh was left seiously injured while working for the Kalafatis Packing company in Shepparton East, northern Victoria.

 

Kalafatis Packing company have been fined 72,000 dollars -just under 47,000 euro- for an incident involving a conveyor belt at their premises in Northern Victoria.

Annie Dunne was back packing through Australia when she took up work at the Packing company in 2015.

She suffered extensive injuries : when her hair became caught in a mechanical conveyor belt in a packing shed on November 7th of 2015 : while she was cleaning the machine and a colleague mistakenly turned it on.

It resulted in the young Tipp woman being horrifically injured, with extensive damage to her scalp and one of her ears.

The company said the incident had shocked everyone and had invested more than 200,000 in infrastructure since the incident.
