South Tipperary County Council had refused permission for the development at Cloghabreeda, Kedrah.

Access to the planned service area would be from the N24 with the developers describing it as an offline motorway service area on the M8 at Junction 10, Cahir.

As well as petrol and diesel sales the project also includes a shop and restaurant facilities together with public toilets and parking for 70 cars, 5 HGV's and 4 coaches.

The company behind the plans, Applegreen Services Areas Limited, have appealed the refusal of planning to An Board Pleanala.

An appeal has also been lodged by the owner of the nearby Kedrah House Stud who strongly opposes the planned development.
