Animal Rescue groups struggling to cope with numbers

Over 150 dogs a year are being put down at the South Tipperary pound.

Unwanted or stray dogs are kept at the pound for five days before they are destroyed.

Animal rescue group PAWS says the rate at the local dog-pound is quite high.

The group take as many as they can each week for rehoming – many of them greyhounds and lurchers.

But PAWS founder Gina Hetherington says there’s no way they can save all of them every week.
