Anger over lack of information on Templemore flood relief plans

Councillors have been expressing their outrage over a presentation from the OPW on a planned new Flood Relief Scheme for Templemore.

Office of Public Works Engineer Paul Kiernan laid out a plan for the €10 million project which would involve permanently closing off the Mall River where it runs through the North Tipp town after severe flooding in 1997 and 2000.

Councillors for the Templemore – Thurles Municipal District were angry at the lack of detail they were being offered about the scheme.

Fianna Fail’s Michael Smith says The OPW presentation has lead to more questions than answers.

Councillor John Hogan says the plan to close off the river from it’s natural course will cause more problems than it will solve.
