Ancient trough destroyed in Nenagh

Contractors carrying out reinstatement works in Nenagh have accepted responsibility for destroying a historic water trough.

The trough – which was located on Kenyon Street – was used to water animals during fair days in the town in the past.

It was being removed by contractors carrying out works following the laying of gas pipelines in Nenagh when the ancient structure crumbled.

The contractors involved have said it was their decision and not Tipperary County Councils to move the trough to carry out reinstatement works with plans to return it to its original site once those works were complete.
