The decision by An Bord Pleanala to refuse permission for a windfarm in the Ballymacarbry area has been welcomed by local T.D Mattie McGrath.

The South Tipp Independent Deputy says the Board believed the proposed development would have adverse effects on the environment.

Nine wind turbines were planned for the development which would have been 5 kilometres south of Clonmel.

Mattie McGrath described it as a rural area and that the windfarm would have had serious consequences on the local environment and the tourism sector for the wider community.

He also claims Ecopower Developments Limited were not interested in dealing with the local community and their concerns regarding the windfarm.
