Clonmel Borough Council had given the green light for the addition of a pharmacy to the existing centre on Mary Street last February.

This decision was appealed to An Bord Pleanala by Mr Pat Bourke of Old Road, Cashel who pointed out that the development was opposite St. Mary's Church and that it would take away from the architectural heritage of the area.

His appeal also covered areas such as parking difficulties, signage and the impact of a ramp on pedestrian traffic.

The state planning appeals board has decided to grant permission for the plans by Colman Walsh for the Mary Street Medical Centre but has imposed revised conditions.
