An Garda Siochana emphasise road safety this week

Gardaí are warning motorists in Tipperary to ensure their lights are working properly as we head into winter.

With the clocks having gone back over the weekend we’re likely to be spending more time driving in the dark.

Superintendent Eddie Golden from Thurles Garda station says having properly focused and working lights not only helps you see where you are going, they also help other motorists to see you.

This come in tandem with Gardai carrying out a roads policing operation this weekend They stated that a motorist in County Meath had been clocked driving at 167 kilometers per hour in a 80 zone.

Over 12 hundred drivers have been caught above the speed limit across the country since Thursday morning.

147 people have been killed on Irish roads since the start of the year.
