Tipperary County Council has been working on attracting new tenants to the landmark site which fronts onto the Davis Road and Dillon Street.

Just over three years on from when the army left Kickham Barracks, Tipperary County Council has now completed plans for the 11 acre site.

A number of new tenants are set to take up residency there over the coming years.

Members of the Clonmel Borough District were briefed on the master plan at this week meeting of the local authority.

Clonmel Gardai will be relocating from their current station on Emmet Street while L.I.T and Tipperary Education and Training Board will also be based there.

Fianna Fail Councillor Siobhán Ambrose says the development will bring a new lease of life to the town and link the town centre to the Showgrounds area.

Tipperary County Council will be going ahead with the public plaza as soon as possible though the overall plan is a 10 to 15 year vision with some of the anchor tenants coming on board when Government funding is forthcoming.

The scheme will now go through a Part 8 Process which means the plans will be going on public display.
